Zirconium hydroxide properties :

Zirconium hydroxide is a kind of amphoteric hydroxide which is insoluble in water and slightly more alkaline. Non-toxic and tasteless, insoluble or slightly soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol, alkali and ammonium salt solution. Soluble in inorganic acids such as hydrochloric acid. Zirconium hydroxide decomposes into zirconium dioxide and water at 500°C. Due to its amphoteric nature, Zirconium hydroxide can react with acids and bases. When melted, Zirconium hydroxide forms crystalline ortho-zirconate with strong alkali. By the action of zirconium salt aqueous solution and caustic soda (or ammonia water) aqueous solution, the first zirconium hydroxide obtained is called α-zirconic acid, which can be dissolved in dilute acid. Precipitated under heating conditions is called β-zirconic acid, which is insoluble in water and acid.
